Safari 3 Beta kept crashing on PDF links for me. I found and removed an old Adobe PDF viewer plug-in, and all is well again. Use the Finder's search feature to locate AdobePDFViewer.plugin (it should probably be found in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/), and delete it. Restart Safari 3, and the crashes may be gone.

A fix for Safari 3 beta crashes on PDF links
I had a similar problem. Although Safari wouldn't crash when opening a pdf the file would never open (Safari would just present a blank grey window). The culprit turned out to be the Acrobat 8 plugin. Removing it solved the problem.

The built-in PDF viewer works like a charm, too. And in Safari 3 (contrary to the shipped version), all the options available in Preview.app also work. Particularly the Command+"+" and Command+"-" shortcuts to zoom on a PDF document!

You have my vote for hint of the month. Solved the crash problem completely. And I didn't even have to quit Safari, it crashed when I trashed the plugin.

A fix for Safari 3 beta crashes on PDF links
This "fix" does allow one to view pdfs in Safari, but it doesn't allow one to use the Acrobat plugin. Does anyone know what needs to be done to use the Acrobat plugin? Or do I just have to wait for Adobe to release a new plugin for Safari 3?

Unfortunately such services as Postage on line from USPS won't work with Preview as it is scripted to find Adobe's pluggin. So in order to use the service (to print labels and postage) I have to take the Adobe PDF pluggin from the "Disabled Pluggins" folder and put it back into the active pluggins... and when through.. put it back into the disabled folder. What a pain.
