Reattach detached Safari 3 beta tabs Apps
I really like being able to drag the tabs off the tab bar in Safari Beta 3 (522.11) and make new windows, besides being able to reorder the tabs, of course.

But did you know that if you have another window with one or more tabs showing, you can drag any one of its tabs off and add it as a tab back into the first window (in effect the reverse of tearing a tab off as a separate window)? I am finding this very handy when doing webpage development, and needing to group pages together in separate windows.

...but what was NOT pointed out (explicitly) in the release notes was that in order to drag a tab BACK into the original window (or into any other window, for that matter), it needs to be reverted into being a tab.

In other words, pulling a tab off one Safari window onto your desktop opens a new Safari window with that tab as the active page. But unless you have Safari set to always show the Tabs bar, there is no actual tab to drag back into the original page.

It took me a little bit of pondering to realize this...maybe it was just a slow day for me or maybe this isn't as obvious as it sounds once you realize it...

Thanks for the tip. It also works with omniweb. If one double clicks a tab in omniweb, it detaches itself as a separate window. Type command-T to add a tab to that new window and drag the original tab to its original window tab pane.

Sweet, I was looking for that.

Merge Windows under the Window menu item will put an untabbed window back into another window (tabbed or not).

Please, not again.

You could always just open a blank tab to get the tab bar showing. Then, you can drag the tab of interest where you want it to go. You do end up with an empty window where your blank tab was, though.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but once I drag a tab off into a new window there is no way I can make it become a tab on another window. The only way I can effectively take a tab from one window to another is to drag the URL from one window into the tab bar of another.

You can't use Exposť to get between windows. You have to have two Safari windows on the screen at the same time, and then drag between them.
