Well, mostly. There are a couple others in the mix, but most of today's tips are about Safari 3. Amongst the tips, there are two Safari for Windows hints -- this isn't a sign of change, but since many of us will be using Safari on Windows in Parallels, Boot Camp, or Fusion to test sites, I felt it fair to share these hints. As with iTunes, we won't get into actual Windows-related hints here, but if someone submits something about iTunes or Safari for Windows that may help Mac users use those apps better, then I'll probably run the hint.

Safari 3 Mac hint.
Safari 3 beta gave me problems until I updated Adobe Reader from the 7 version I had been using to the latest version 8. The beta would crash if I clicked a pdf file.
Don't bother
1) it's a beta and so it's buggy.
Don't bother
The uninstaller restores Safari 2.

It seems that Safari 3 doesn't play well with phpMyAdmin. The left frame is really small and I can't resize it like I could in Safari 2.
Pithhelmet
Safari 3 disables Pithhelmet as you might expect, but for reasons beyond me, this caused Netnewswire Light to crash; removing Pithhelmet completely fixes the problem. Pithhelmet files:
Pithhelmet
As of mid-december 2007, PithHelmet is in beta for Safari 3. Check here:
http://www.culater.net/thc/index.php?entry=/Development/PithHelmet/beta_v2_8_2.txt If that link dies in the future, the main PithHelmet page should have the relevant info, and is here: http://www.culater.net/software/PithHelmet/PithHelmet.php

I also installed it, being, for me, the highlight of the whole keynote and uninstalled it yesterday because it made launchbar not index my firefox bookmarks anymore which I thought was strange.

For me, being able to drag tabs around and between windows was a big plus - I often end up with too many windows each containing arbitrary assortments of content, and want to be able to organise them.

Google apps work in Safari 3. You still get a warning that Safari isn't supported but it works anyway. Not if only FCKEditor would work!

The one thing that impressed me about Safari3 is already built into the WebKit nightlies: Resizer Controls on forms.
[link:]http://expatleo.wordpress.com/2007/06/11/safari-30-beta-form-text-resizers/ So just run the webkit nightly and [for now] stay away from Safari3 until the [webkit using] vendors catch up with the beta. ---
SafariStand can cause issues too.
SafariStand can cause issues too.
Yes. The problem here is when Site Alteration it's on.

but since many of us will be using Safari on Windows in Parallels, Boot Camp, or Fusion to test sites, I felt it fair to share these hints Yeah, I can't agree. Using that same logic, you should start posting hints about Internet Explorer, IIS and MS Access. The site is called "Mac OS Hints" not "Apple Hints". I don't actually have a problem with posting all types of Apple related hints but it is out of scope of what the site is meant to offer.

Hi All,
New features
A description of two of the announced new features (and why I like them)
It's Safari 3 tips day...
only problem i had was needing to re-install flash and shockwave. the weird 1 was it messed with ichat. i got failed to load errors and long delays. I uninstalled and that got rid of the issue. re-installed beta and removed chax and that resolved the issue. if any one knows why ichat would get funky with chax by installing safari 3 please let me know i am still clueless
It's Safari 3 tips day...
Simple. Chax, like SafariStand etal is an InputManager.

With the new webkit installed NetNewsWire 2.1 crashes when rendering this page.
It's Safari 3 tips day...
Probably because NetNewsWire relies on the core WebKit which is replaced with Safari3. I posted a new blog entry about what gets replaced so that users can make an informed decision as to whether they want to use Safari3 or the Nightly WebKit build:
[link:]http://expatleo.wordpress.com/2007/06/14/so-what-is-changed-in-safari3/ Me? I'm staying with WebKit Nightly. I like the form textarea controls... everything else is just icing on the cake until Leopard arrives. ---

I wasn't aware that there were multiple versions of WebKit.

I also found that the tabs are "reorderable" by dragging them. (At least on the windows version)
It's Safari 3 tips day...
Yes, just like Firefox... since version 2...;)
