Recently I was trying to find a way to get iPhoto and/or iDVD photo slideshows to display the date a photo was taken at the same time as the picture. Both apps included a simple checkbox to display the photos' title (and comments, in iDVD), but nothing for the date.
After several failed searches for an AppleScript to do the job, I finally remembered that iPhoto allows batch changes on photos (select all relevant photos, then select Photos » Batch Change). Sure enough, one option there allowed me to batch-change all the pictures' titles to the date they were taken. After making the change, iPhoto displayed the date (i.e. the title) in a grey box in the upper-left corner of the image. iDVD displays the dates in a much larger grey box across the entire bottom of the photo.
I don't do creative titling in iPhoto, so when I'm done burning my DVD, all I need to do is batch-change the photos titles' back to each picture's respective filename.
