Move your Parallels folder to another location Apps
I recently moved to a mobile account on my MacBook Pro and really didn't want my Parallels Virtual Machine files to be re-copied to the server when syncing, since they are so large.

After trying to move the Parallels folder from my ~/Library to /Users/Shared/ and simply creating an alias back to the original location, I found that Parallels thought I was starting a new setup and wasn't recognizing my previous Virtual Machines.

Instead, I used Terminal to create a symbolic link back to my ~/Library:

cd ~/Library
ln -s /Users/Shared/Parallels Parallels

Upon launching Parallels, my Virtual Machines were recognized and they are no longer synced when connecting and syncing my mobile account.

kirkmc adds: It is likely that the alias is not recognized because it is in the /Users/Shared folder, which has weird mojo...

After moving files, just start up Parallels. It won't show the moved files, but when you select "Choose" you can point to the moved files, which will then be added to the list. No need for links.

Exactly, you can set this in Parallels preferences. (At least in version 2.5)

Thank you. Actually, it's not that obvious, but I tested it and if I was to select "Cutom" set-up, a couple of screens later Parallels allows me to select an existing hard disk. Again, thanks for pointing this out.

For each virtual machine you use, you will also have to re-map the hard disk used by the virtual machine so that it points to the new location in your Shared folder

This was not necessary in my case. I am using build 3188, although I'm not sure that matters.
