CastCluster uses ffmpeg for its video conversion... it just makes it easier to feed stuff to ffmpeg... then to get the results of that into itunes via RSS.

I've been using VisualHub for quite a while with excellent results. Granted, it is not free, but I find it well worth the money for all of the additional features it has.

I'm trying to convert my DVD collection to AppleTV and while FFMpeg does an ok job, my success has been 50/50. About half of the time, FFMpeg or any program that uses it fails to convert most of the audio. I have an iMac Core Duo and it takes about 4 hours to convert a 1 1/2 hour video. To find out that the audio cuts out after 2 minutes is a major waste of time, and unfortuntely embarrasement when you have friends over to see how cool your AppleTV is. As we embrace new technology, we wait for stability. |
