mysql ODBC and Excel on Intel Macs Apps
I was trying to get mysql ODBC working on my Intel Mac talking to Excel 2004, and having huge problems with the hints that had been published previously ... however, the solution I eventually found was pretty straightforward.

Download the _PPC_ mysql ODBC driver from MySQL AB and the Universal iODBC SDK from OpenLink and install both. Now set up your data sources as per this hint.

Note that the normal iodbctest tool won't work -- it'll complain about the wrong architecture, but MS Query will. A brighter person than me could probably build fat binaries of the mysql driver and acheive the same objective...

[robg adds: I haven't tested this one...]
