A possible fix for vanishing Mail signatures Apps
I, like many others on the net, was losing my Mail signatures on every quit. None of the fixes I've seen around the web seemed to work, though. I did have two of seven accounts that were holding their signatures, however. So I went through each account's setup to see what was different, and I noticed that the only difference was the account names. The accounts that held their signatures on a quit had different names than the address of the account itself. The accounts losing their signatures had the same account name as the address. So I deleted the .com part of the account names, and they started holding their signatures.

Now I'm not sure if keeping the name different was the key, or if you can't end an account name with .com, but one of those two things is what solved this rather frustrating problem. Hope that helps someone out there.

[robg adds: When I tested this on two accounts, I couldn't replicate the issue -- regardless of which version of the email address I used as the account name, the signatures were saved.]

A possible fix for vanishing Mail signatures
Authored by: bellipses on Feb 02, '07 05:38:35PM

I just recently had the same problem. I had removed an outgoing mail server from my account preferences. Then, without reason, my email signatures would no longer hold in my email account upon exit. They were still available in "All Signatures" but not in my specific account signatures (and, more importantly, not available in the drop-down when composing).

I found that going into my Account Information and changing the account Description resolved the issue. The account was not previously named as my email address, but simply changing it fixed the problem.

Hopefully this helps someone else...

Thanks. I was having the exact same problem. I had recently deleted or changed one of the servers that all the vanishing account signature accounts were attached to.

By changing the description name (I simply added -POP onto the end), closing and reopening Mail, everything is now right with the world again. I also found that I could now change the descriptions back to what they were again, so it's not the description name itself that is at fault, but the simple act of changing it and saving the change must relink some connection to the preferences for that account.

Renaming of Accounts did the trick! Finally Relieved after nearly half a year of annoying behavior of signatures. THANKS!
