Automatically center zoomed views in Preview Apps
In Preview, it is possible to avoid scrolling around in a zoomed picture if you want to view a special area. Before zooming, just use the mousee to drag-select the area of interest -- this will create a box around the area you've selected.

Now, when using the zoom tools, the selection will be automatically centered. Neat! This trick is new to me, and there doesn't seem to be a hint on it yet.

This neat trick works also in iPhoto, where I find it even more useful than in Preview.

Sorry to be a pain, but can't you just go to View > Zoom to Selection? The shortcut is cmd-*, and it also has a toolbar item.
