An AppleScript to send iTunes info to a weblog Internet
There is a significant shortage of tools available for sending information about your current iTunes song to your blog. For Windows, there's iTunesBlogger, but for the Mac, there's not really anything that's simple and transparent. So I wrote an AppleScript that works in conjunction with a PHP script called TrackTunes (part of the CG-PowerPack) to get my currently-playing iTunes song to display properly on my WordPress blog. The script is here:

Blog Current Song.scpt

Further information about my research into this topic and how to install and run the script is available in this entry on my blog.

[robg adds: As the referenced blog entry is rather detailed, I won't try to repeat it here. As noted in the entry, there's a Mac app called Recent Tunes that will do this for you. It's what I've been using on my personal blog, but it is a bit flakey, sometimes not updating the songs when it should. The program hasn't been updated since 2004, and is unlikely to be updated in the future, so the above script/PHP code might be the best solution.]

Pretty slick script. Most of the Mac-focused iTunes to blog integrations, like my iTunes2Manila AppleScript, focused on using the blogging APIs to create individual posts with "now listening" content. With the PHP script referenced in the original post, this is much more useful. Very cool.

Also see siglet and ampsig (creations of mine). Siglet is a Dashboard widget that sends iTunes song info to the server of your choice, and ampsig is a PHP script that dynamically generates an image to display the data it receives. Using ampsig may be simpler than modifying your blog to parse the data because all you need to do is add an image tag to your layout or post.

If you read the blog entry, it explains how I tried Last.FM and how it wasn't what I was looking for.

Last.fm does the same thing.

By using Last.fm's iScrobbler application you can upload your tracks to their social music site (which can help you discover music) as well as generating an variety of RSS feeds about your listening habits. They even have a huge library of javascript based widgets that you can include on your site with a simple cut-and-paste.
