The dual tuner in the Elgato Diversity got me wondering: if the EyeTV software supports dual tuners, then what would happen if you plugged in two separate tuners? Well, I discovered that it works perfectly, even with different EyeTV models. I'm using the DTT and the Hybrid on my 1.66 GHz Mac Mini. They allow me to:

Use multiple tuners with EyeTV
I have a Miglia mini HD and a Hauppage HVR-950 (the same device as the EyeTV Hybrid, I think). I can occasionally get them to work simultaneously as described, but switching between devices has not proved to work consistently. Analog Cable connected to HVR-950, terrestrial antenna connected to Miglia mini HD. Switching from an Analog Cable channel to a Digital Antenna channel seems to be the problem. The other direction works. Either it says no signal, or the Channel list doesn't fill up. Unplugging a device and plugging it back in seems to correct the problem. So does quitting and restarting EyeTV. I have EyeTV 2.3.2, and the miglia signal quality is 100%, strength is between 60% and 88%. Mac mini Core Duo 1.66GHz, 1GB RAM, 10.4.8. I inquired with El Gato last week and haven't heard back yet.

Multiple antenna required ?
I'm just curious if you need to use a different antenna for each receiver ? I run my receiver off the main roof antenna, so it would be clearly impractical to have a separate antenna for a second device.
Multiple antenna required ?
You don't need to have a separate aerial on the roof. I now use a splitter that has a built in amplifier - available from most good electronics stores for about £10 to £15. This gives you two inputs that you can use with two separate EyeTV tuners.
PIP?
the last version of EyeTV has support of Picture In Picture, can you do that?
PIP?
Yes - works great - two different channels both with pause / rewind.
PIP?
Yes, you can. I have tested it in EyeTV 2.4.1, using EyeTV USB and EyeTV Hybrid with no problems.
Use multiple tuners with EyeTV
I've been using a TVMini HD and the Terratec SD tuner on a single Mac Mini since April, but EyeTV craps out after a few days of operation.
Mac Mini [eyeTV] Crashes after a few days...
The default setting for eyeTV is 2 GB of hard drive to record live TV [allows you to pause, fast rewind, fast forward]. I have switched to RAM only, 50 MB RAM instead [allows about five minutes rewind] and performance seems to be is fairly good now. |
