Sync only specific numbers to a cell phone via iSync Apps
This might be classified under "Bloody Obvious," but it took me a while to figure out this hint. When I got a new cell phone, I only wanted certain numbers from Address Book to go on the phone. iSync gives the option of either all numbers or just one of your groups.

So the answer, of course, is to create a group just for numbers you want on the cell phone. I created a group called RAZR, and dragged the numbers I wanted into it. In iSync, select the phone, then under Contacts, select the new phone group for synchronizing.

Sync only specific numbers to a cell phone via iSync

i sync my phone with address book, but almost half the entries in my address book are email or IM addresses, w/o phone numbers, and i don't want them cluttering up my phone contacts.

so i created a smart group containing "phone is set" entries. oops, you can't sync to a smart group. (duh.)

so i made a ... um ... dumb group for syncing and every now and then, i drag the smart group entries into the dumb group.

In iSync, when you select your phone to set the synchronization options, if you click More Options... you can choose to "Only synchronize contacts with phone numbers". Is this what you want?

Interesting, because I do the same thing (create a "Smart Group" then copy to a "Dumb Group"), so I was happy to see there was another way...

Except, that on my version of iSync (2.3 (500.86)), this is option doesn't seem to show up anywhere.

I've clicked on my phone (Nokia 6620) then "More Options" and the only options are "Don't synchronize events prior to:" and "Don't synchronize events after:" And, under the iSync preferences, there's nothing there about Contacts.

Am I missing something, or are there different iSync versions out there that we're talking about?

What would be really useful is if there was a field in Address Book for an alternate contact name to use on the phone. Or maybe if it could use the nickname field, if set, as the name on the phone.

To be honest, on my phone I don't really want everyone in there as "FirstName LastName"...

Been doing this for years on a few different phones but it's a good tip to anyone who didn't think of this.

Sync only specific numbers in Entourage to a cell phone via MobileSync

If you want to do the same thing with Entourage contacts you dedicate a category for syncing and specify that category in MobileSync.

Old news but hopefully someone will be helped by this hint.

Why bother ? There's an option in iSync application that says something like (sorry I am french speakling) "Sync only contacts with a phone number". Simple isn't it ?
