Remove emails from POP server through Mail Apps
I prefer to not have Mail erase messages from the server after it retrieves them, in case I need to access certain emails from remote sites. I used to go to my email provider's webmail to erase the messages I didn't need to keep, but by accident I found how to do this through Mail.

Here is how to get into the Account Info window, which allows you to remove messages from POP (that's all I've tested) servers without removing them from your computer. In Mail's sidebar, click on either Inbox or a specific mailbox nested under Inbox from which you would like to remove messages. Either control-click and choose Get Info from the pop-up menu, or hit Command-I and the Account Info window will come up.

In the Messages on Server tab, you can select individual or multiple messages in the standard way (shift-click to highlight a group, command-click to add or remove individual messages). The 'Remove from Server' button is in the lower right.

I hope this hint can help other people who need to clean out their POP mailboxes but cannot stand their email provider's webmail system. It's been quite the timesaver for me.

I leave the mails also on the email-server. But I'd like mail to delete the messages from the server that I delete in Mail (such as Spam). But I cant find an Option to do that. Thats why I use Thunderbird. There it works.

Mail -> Preferences -> Accounts -> Advanced
Check: 'Remove copy from server after retrieving a message:
Select: 'When moved from Inbox'

That is a bit too broad. Ideally you could say, "remove from server when moved from Inbox to folder <xxx>."

I moved from Entourage to Apple Mail. This is the one feature I still miss from Entourage.

This does not seem to work with Google's Gmail popserver. Too bad, as I would use this feature.

I wonder if you could somehow AppleScript this.

I moved from Entourage to Apple Mail, and this is the only thing I miss from Entourage.

Remove emails from POP server through Mail

Ok so I just started using Mail.app acouple of weeks ago and I noticed that my mail on the server was disappearing once retrieved, after reading this post I, or by default, must have set the option to delete mail after being retrieved. So first thanks for the post, it saved me sometime trying to find out what happened to my mail. The question I have is there anyway to push mail back to the server through Mail.app?

Thanks, great hint as I am new to Mac's and also don't like my ISP webmail system and don't having my preferences set to delete mail as I download.
