If you don't like the Windows Live logo that's staying in the top right of your Messenger 6 window, just go to Microsoft Messenger app in the Finder. Control-click on it and select Show Package Contents from the pop-up menu. Then navigate into Contents -> Resources and remove (or rename) the ContactListMSNLogo.png file. That will put a white rectangle in that spot instead. Not perfect cosmetically, but better much better than the original look!

Remove the Windows Live logo from Messenger 6
I've taken your hint further and replaced the original logo to something more appropriate.

Replacing all those logo images (ContactListMSNLogo.png, MSNLogo.png, IMMSLogo.png, IMMSNLogo.png) with 100%-transparent PNGs also seems to work well. Much cleaner. :)

That is much cleaner; I like this idea much more.

HAHAH! Now this is a hint I truly enjoy! It strips the mark of the beast from a mac app, and it demonstrates that there are certainly other mac users out there that loath seeing M$ anything...much less having to use its horrid products/software. Way-to-go!! Thanks for this! Someone should make a small little app that does this, with custom badge options! :)

Just in case any MSN users out there haven't tried it yet, here's a link to Adium, which is (for some) an infinitely better IM client. I think it might still lack a few features of the MS one -- neither are as complete as the Windows client, at any rate -- but it sure does everything I need just fine. Thought I'd mention it, seeing as this thread is for those who like to make things look slicker on their screens -- here's a little shot of the real estate Adium is taking up on my desktop. |
