Perform two DVD backups at once using Mac the Ripper Apps
After buying a new Mac Pro, I found myself wondering if it was possible to use both drives at once to backup two DVDs at a time using MacTheRipper (MTR). After a little research, and the help of our friends on the ripDifferent.com forums, here's how to do just that:
The only workaround to do this at this time is to launch the first instance of MTR, start the rip, then eject the DVD while it's being ripped (it will only unmount the disc, not eject it - but MTR will keep ripping oblivious). Then, you can start the second instance of MTR and rip the second DVD. You might want to eject the second DVD too, so that when the first instance of MTR is done, it won't screw with the second rip when it tries to scan your drives again.
As noted on the original thread, the idea is to use the power of the new Macs to the maximum, and be the most efficient possible. I tried this already, and it really worked like a charm. This will also work if you have an external DVD in addition to your internal, of course.

I tried it on my MBP with the internal drive and an external DVR-108 via FireWire and it works perfectly. Thanks!

I was recently trying to get iTunes to rip two CDs at the same time using the internal and external drives on my MacBook and could not get it to work. Anyone figured that one out?

How can I start the second MTR instance? After starting the first instance, if I try to start a second instance by double-clicking the MTR in the Applications folder, it brings me back to the first instance already executing.

Thanks in advance!

@emercado - I realize this is a little late, but in case you're still wondering:

The easiest way is to goto the Applications folder in Finder (cmd+shift+A), select the MTR application, and duplicate it.

Then just fire up the copy.

VoilĂ !
