Change video kind in iTunes 7 Apps
A new feature in iTunes 7 allows you to set the Kind for your video. Say if you import a video, it used to be it would be classified just as a movie, but now you can set it so it appears as a Movie, Music Video, or TV Show. All you have to do it Get Info (Command-I) on the file and change the Video Kind pop-up. Works wonders.

[robg adds: The oversight here seems to be the lack of a Music Video entry in the Library section. I have a bunch of music videos on my hard drive, so I tried importing a couple. They showed in the Movies library on initial import. When I set the Video Kind to Music Video, though, they migrated into the Music library. Yes, you can use a smart playlist (Kind - is - Music Video), but I'd rather not have my videos intermingled with my music. So for now, I've left them all as Movies.

I also noticed that you can't change the Video Kind for music videos from the store -- at least, I don't think you can. I've never purchased a music video from the store, but I have a freebie that I downloaded. In its Get Info window, the Video Kind pop-up is grayed out, so it's permanently marked as a Music Video.]

This is not new. iTunes 6 did this too.

Yes. But what is new is that you can now set the video type in multiple info mode, too. As well as the "skip when shuffling" setting which would get rid of music videos getting in the way with music when placed in the music library. I only mourn the glossy shiny video view from iTunes 6 that was so cool.

While Music Videos do not appear by default in the general library section, iTunes does appear to create a Music Video smart playlist automatically.

Smart Playlists also seem to have been enhanced such that the new video kind attribute can be utilized.

I just use "Parsley is Atomically Delicious" (free) You have to drag the content to your desktop, edit it with the program, and drag it back to iTunes, but hey, it's free and works great! http://them.ws/pad/

As does another popular MP4 tag editor, Lostify. The advantage of external programs like PAD and Lostify is that they actually open up the video file itself and embed the video-related metadata directly in the files.

When you make changes to the Kind (or the other video-related fields newly editable in iTunes 7) from within iTunes, the changes are only made in the iTunes database. If you remove the file from iTunes and add it back again, it reverts to "Movie". PAD and Lostify make these changes persistent.

It's beyond me why Apple does not include "Home Movies" or "Personal Video" as an option when they are pushing the creation of these things to the average Mac user with iMovie and the like.

No "Home Movies" section

I think the reason Apple hasn't included a "Home Movies" section to iTunes is because you should be using iPhoto for home photo's & movies.

There also needs to be a way to change movies to "Podcast" as my Movies section is flooded with files that have forgotten they are podcasts.

The AppleScript Set Video Kind of Selected will change the video kind on a selection of videos.

Ahh HA! "Parsley is Atomically Delicious" is the weirdest name for a program I have ever heard of, but I don't care. It works. Back when iTMS first started selling music videos, I purchased Pink Bullets by The Shins. Well, it's always been classified as just a "Movie". This wasn't such an issue until iTunes 7 came along. It's been a thorn in my side, as the menu to change it to a Music Video was always grayed out because I got it from the store. Well, I tried the Apple Script from Doug's site, but that won't let you change iTMS video's. I am very happy to say PAD did the job perfectly. Even on a iTMS purchased video. Now, is there any similar utilities that will let you set the file as an Audiobook? Thanks again.

A similar feature to change tracks between music and audiobooks would be great. Any hints?

AAC's with the "M4B " file type will appear in the Audiobooks Library. See this hint.

This hint and the new Video area in iTunes makes me wonder...
It's the end of the Movies folder in the User folder?
