Play 'difficult' iTunes video podcasts in a separate window Apps
Several video podcasts of late have formatted their QuickTime movies in such a way that the only way to view them in iTunes is within the small video corner of the iTunes window. Normally clicking on a playing video there would open the video in its own window, or you could go full size, but not with these videos. MacBreak and ZeFrank's The Show are two culprits that come to mind -- not to blame them, though, for adding extra QuickTime content to their videos; it's all iTunes fault.

Anyway, I have found a workaround. Play another video, and open it in a separate window by clicking on it. Then, pause it and open the desired difficult video without closing the first. The new video will open in its own window and allow double-sizing and whatnot. But don't try full screen, because that still doesn't work.

Actually, at least with Ze Frank's show, all you have to do is Option-Click the small window, and it will open up in a new window. He even tells you how on his podcast's iTunes description.

Alt-Shift-Click seems to work on Windows.

Why not...

1) Ctrl-click, "Show Song File,"
2) Open file in QuickTime
3) Play fullscreen (needs QuickTime Pro)

I have to do this because iTunes likes to put a small colored line at the bottom of the videos when I play them in fullscreen.

Script for Opening the Window?
Authored by: wallsbk on Sep 08, '06 01:33:41PM
Does anyone know of a script that could go in the movie file to open the window? I'd like to make closed captioning work like on the Tecnocato podcast, which allows you to show captions by clicking on a small "CC" icon. It would be great if the rest of the screen could be an active area to open the full-size viewer.

Frankly. iTunes sucks for playing videos. I've found a great Applescript at Doug's Applescripts that will allow you to select a video and have it open in QT player. Find it here. It annoyingly brings up a menu, but the script is easily edited to turn that off.
