When going through images with the ribbon at the top in iPhoto, simply press the w key -- it will get rid of the menu bar and the dock, and you can maximise iPhoto fully. This can also be done in fullscreen mode.

Tested and confirmed in iPhoto 6.0.4 ... only works in Edit view, but, if you click "Done", iPhoto's main window remains in this menu-less mode. You can maximize it to fill all available screen area.

Rob... you can also hide the dock, at least on a temporary basis. Go to Apple->Dock, the first option either turns on hiding or turns it off.

If only there was a button/option to hide the Toolbar, which i never use.

I think it is a function that is used in the full screen mode (the button down left), that is unintentional active in edit mode.

If you really want to maixmize realestate, why not just use full screen mode for all your editing needs?

But how to remove that useless toolbar from iPhoto?

This works in all edit modes (Integrate, Separate Window and Full Screen Mode). Clearly it was supposed to work for FSM but the software only checks for editmode=true.
