Use the Reload button in Safari for initial page loading Web Browsers
If you're like me, you're a little lazy sometimes when using your laptop ... browsing the internet, laid out on the sofa with the laptop just out of reach, and using a Bluetooth mouse. When copy / pasting URL's into the address bar, you still need to lean forward to hit Enter to actually go to a webpage.

I just discovered, though, that you can click your mouse on Safari's Reload button (as seen at right), and the URL you just pasted into the address bar will load.

[robg adds: This trick seems to be exclusive to Safari. Other browsers (I tested Camino, Firefox, and two versions of OmniWeb) either reload the existing page, or have the reload button dimmed if the window is blank.]

In Firefox, you can just click the "Go" button (the one immediately to the right of the address bar). No need for the reload button, which seems like a buggy effect anyway (what happens if you try to reload a frames-based page where the URL doesn't correspond to what you're actually seeing?).

Opera has a feature called "paste and go" which let's you paste the URL and Go to the page at once. Instead of ctrl+v use ctrl+b or right click in the addressbar and choose Paste and Go

To score extra laziness points, try just highlighting the URL, then right-clicking. In quite a few apps, I see an option to Go To URL, or to search for that highlighted text in Google. Either one will take you to the web, direct to that URL or to a Google search result that has that URL as a clickable link, at top.

It doesn't work for me in Firefox, but I got so used to doing this that I still have the habit of trying it first. I think Safari will do it for you. It could be that I've installed something that causes this [I learn about plenty of nice labor-saving apps and tricks at this site], so take a look for yourself.

Wow, this redeems a "feature" that I have always considered a "bug" in Safari. Namely, if you start typing in a URL, and realize that you failed to Bookmark or make a note of the page you were on (assuming you want to, of course), hitting the refresh button does not bring back the currently visible page. This is the normal behavior in many other browsers.

This is particularly a pain if you _inadvertently_ type in the location bar. Yes, there are ways to get the info (using the back button at this point), but it completely breaks the rhythm of whatever it was you were trying to do. D'oh

So, now it looks like the Apple programmers did something clever, but not intuitive, to save a tiny bit of space on the location bar-- imagine that. Oh, and it irks me to no end to watch users take their hands off the keyboard to click on the "Go" button in certain browsers, instead of just hitting return. Bah, who needs a redundant button?

Yes, that behaviour has to be one of the most ridiculous habits that people seem to get into. Another is clicking to select the next text field in a form, instead of simply pressing the tab key.

To revert what you have typed in the location bar, simply press escape.

Dude, just drag the URL by its favicon onto the currently loaded page. It'll load. I'll bet that's standard behavior for most browsers, although I can't say I've tested it everywhere. Plus, if you start to drag a URL or link by accident, drop it on the menu bar. Otherwise, it'll either paste the URL to where you dragged it or create one of those webloc files on the desktop (or that springy-looking thing in the dock). I'm surprised this isn't second-nature to everyone. ;)

By the way, that's the same way you add bookmarks in the bookmarks bar.
