Capture and edit at the same time in iMovie 6 Apps
While digging around inside iMovie's packages while working on this hint, I noticed another hidden preference for iMovie. As with the other hint, the info is hiding in the LocalizableStrings.plist file:
...

defaults write com.apple.iMovie CaptureInModalWindow -bool no

Will allow you to capture in one window, while continuing to edit in another. Unless the computer is very fast, and the user very understanding of whats going on (e.g. don't start a bunch of renders or save a complicated project), this is a bad idea. It is completely untested. */
In other words, if you set this preference, you'll be able to open two iMovie windows for one project -- one to capture video from your camera, and the other to continue editing the same project.

To implement this, enter the above command in Terminal (when iMovie isn't running). But please, heed the warning (which is reproduced verbatim, missing words and all) -- you'll need a fast machine, and you really shouldn't do anything too complex in the editing window while capturing in the other. I have not tested this one, but since it was sitting there in the file, ready to be hinted, here is it. Proceed at your own risk -- I'd strongly recommend working on a backup copy of your project if you plan on testing this one in any way!

To reverse the setting, repeat the command, but replace no with yes.
