Ever wondered where to keep your macbook IR remote so it does not get lost on your desk? Well, inspired by a similar 'feature' on the iMac, I found that you can stick the remote magnetically to the top left of the MacBook display's frame -- like this.

No. This doesn't really seem to be completely intentional. The magnet it sticks to is what MacBooks use as a latch.

I really thought this was common knowledge. When the Intel iMac was first on display at the Apple Stores, that is where they were all kept, stuck to the side of the iMac.

I wonder if that is meant as a remote holder, or if that is part of the magnets that keep the lid shut. Is it magnets that keep the lid shut or is there a spring in the hinge somewhere?

The magnet is not there specifically for the IR remote. The magnet keeps your lid closed. There is a magnet on the right side of the mabook also.

you shouldn't use your notebook in bed. according to apple disclaimer, macbook is not a bedtop - it can overheat itself or even burn your bed.
