You can create an iPhoto photocast for free, without a .Mac account. Here's what you'll need in order to do so:
- iPhoto 6
- The CustomHTMLExport plug-in (already mentioned in this hint)
- My photocast template. Unzip it and put the resulting Photocast folder inside the ~/Library -> Application Support -> CustomHTMLExport directory.
- A place to publish a web site (for instance, web space provided by your ISP).
Instructions:
- Select the album (or images) you want to publish.
- Choose File -> Export, select the CustomHTMLExport tab.
- Set the ParentSite attribute (in the second box) to what will be your future photocast web address. For example: http://myisp.com/me/myphotocast.
- Set the Template pop-up to Photocast.
- Click on the Export button and choose an empty folder as the destination.
- Upload the folder and images to your web site. Once uploaded, these are the relevant URLs:
- http://myisp.com/me/myphotocast/index.html will be the front page to communicate to your familly or friends.
- http://myisp.com/me/myphotocast/index.rss will be your photocast address (to use when subscribing in iPhoto).
Here's an idea of how it looks.
[robg adds: I tested this, and it works as described. There's no control over the size of the exported images, however, so you may want to make copies of the images to be photocasted and reduce their sizes first, especially if you've got a camera with many megapixels!]
