Printing on my computer takes up a terrible amount of processor time. What's worse, so does a job simply waiting to be printed! So, if your computer seems to be getting bogged down by the simplest of tasks, take a look at your printer queue under the Printer Setup Utility (in Applications/Utilities), and make sure there's nothing waiting, just in case.

remember, delete completed jobs
A while back I noticed lengthening queue times to print. Once you are in the printer list, double click the printer name to bring up the jobs window. I clicked on the completed tab and saw a years worth of print jobs listed. After deleting them (looking under the JOBS menu for 'clear completed jobs list') time to print shortened.
remember, delete completed jobs
I had no idea this "completed jobs" list was building up the way it was!
Re: remember, delete completed jobs
You have a good point. Fortunately, this seems to be fixed in the latest version: CUPS v1.2. Unfortunately, what my (10.4.7) machine has is CUPS v1.1.23.
Re: remember, delete completed jobs
So, when will CUPS 1.2 come to the Mac. (Do we have to wait for Apple or is there a self-help way?) |
