Avoid an immediate restart after system updates

I hate that after many system updates, like the recent QuickTime update, I have to restart my computer. It would not be so annoying if I could do it later. But now, I have to restart or watch the Update window floating on my workspace.

I found a quite obvious way to get rid of System Update window -- just press Command-Option-Escape and force quit the System Update application.

[robg adds: If you do this, remember that you really do need to restart to have the update take effect. While it may not be critical for something like QuickTime, it could be more of an issue in the event of security updates. I thought we had run a hint on this subject here, but nothing turned up in a few search efforts.]
