Use the Apple Remote to control many other apps Apps
When I got my new MacBook Pro, one thing I was looking forward to playing with was the remote control. I was, however, disappointed to find it does not function in many apps I wanted to control -- in particular VLC and Keynote.

Remote Buddy fixed that, allowing my remote control to operate many more applications, including both VLC and Keynote. Note: I don't have any connection to iospirit except being a happy customer!

[robg adds: This previous hint discussed a more limited manner of using the remote in other apps via ControllerMate. This app seems like a more full-featured solution. Note that I haven't tested either of these as of yet.]

I recently emailed the developers of Remote Buddy, lobbying for inclusion of iChat control via the remote and an interface overlay. I encourage others to do the same. The interface I had in mind would at least allow login/logout via saved password and would display a list of available users for audio or video chat in large type.

Add to the list of things to look at: Sofa Control from CASEApps. Ran across a mention of it earlier this week and got a chance to try it Wednesday night. Behaviors are implemented via AppleScript but I don't think the performance issues alluded to on the Remote Buddy page are a significant problem. The only delay I saw at all was when it was building a channel list on the fly for EyeTV.

... and don't forget to mention iRed Lite, which happened to be the first of these tools. Incidentally I know the developer very good (hehe) and he is very busy getting his 1.0 out of the doors.

The Apple Remote works fine for me with Keynote 3 - no extra software is required.

I've found that my remote does work with Keynote (Ver 2.0.2) just fine.... Perhaps there is something amiss with yours...? (MacBook Pro 2.0)
