Rename an iPod via iTunes Apps
I think most people just name their iPods during the initial run of the iPod Setup Assistant, and then just leave the name alone. But what if you want to rename your iPod? I've checked the Apple manuals, and Apple doesn't appear to document how to do this, yet it's quite simple:

Attach your iPod to your computer and wait until its icon appears in iTunes' sidebar. Double click on the iPod's name (just like you were renaming a file in Finder). It will highlight and be editable. Change the name and hit Enter or click away from the name. iTunes will then run the iPod update routine. To check the update, select Settings -> About from the iPod's menu.]

Yes. Another one of those things Apple doesn't document because they think it's obvious. Good hint.

Apple documents this quite well, IMHO.

If you have to find a web page in Apple's knowledge base, then I'd say it's not well documented. If the info comes from the Help window you invoke on your computer while you use iTunes, then I'd say it's well documented.

Did you know that you can rename your entire Library from "Library" to, say "All the good stuff" or "Vault" or whatever using the same method?

You can do this directly from the Finder as well... unless your iPod is set to be syncronize with iTunes... in wich case, the iTunes tricks make sense if you don't want to end up with an "unsyncronizable" iPod...

Actually, if you type in "rename ipod" in the iTunes help window it is there.

Question is what effect does it have when you download itunes from apple. Does that mean that you have to authorize that ipod's new name?
