Add arbitrary RSS podcast feeds to iTunes podcasts Apps
I recently stumbled across an MP3 file distributed over RSS (e.g. a Podcast) that isn't included in the iTMS Podcast directory. Dragging the RSS feed URL into the Podcasts Source folder in iTunes subscribes to the feed, and allows you to treat it as though it is.

On closer inspection of this particular feed, it is clearly marked up with Apple's iTunes podcast-1.0 tags, but clicking on the RSS link directly doesn't add the Podcast to iTunes, so I thought this was worth mentioning.

The ACM "Queuecast" feed I'm referencing is available here.

You can also choose "Subscribe to Podcast..." from the Advanced menu in iTunes.

If you ever find yourself wishing you could get a plain audio file that is *not* part of an RSS feed into iTunes Podcasts, try out my little hack of an application: Typecast. It takes arbitrary files and constructs an "on the fly" RSS feed for them from on your mac directly to iTunes.

Or make your collection into a Radio Station

I hardly keep any music on my PowerBook, and I use a home-grown script, Whispercast to stream my collection over HTTP from home. You need to put it at the root of your music collection, and point your browser to it. iTunes thinks it's a radio station, and starts playing, either multiple songs or a single track at a time.
