If iTunes gives you an error saying that it cannot authorize your computer because of a permissions error, then here's how to fix the problem. Make sure that iTunes is not running, then as an administrator, delete the following directory:
/Users/Shared/SC Info
You will then need launch iTunes and reauthorize your computer. You can do this by playing a file that you have downloaded from iTunes -- free or pay, it doesn't matter -- and entering your Apple ID and password when asked.
[robg adds: Note that this folder is hidden in the Finder (at least, on my machine it is). So to delete it, you can use the Terminal. Type cd /Users/Shared, then sudo rm -r "SC Info", and supply your password when prompted.]
