Use Tiger Woods 2004 (PC) courses on the Mac Apps
I'm a bit of a golf nut; I play the real thing when I get the chance (not nearly often enough), and enjoy playing on the computer when the real thing isn't a viable option (November through March here in Oregon, generally). I own various Tiger Woods Golf releases for both the PC and the Mac. The Mac product seems to follow a two-year cycle -- the 2005 version is the newest we have, though 2006 is out for the PC. (I don't think we'll see 2006; we'll be using 2005 until the 2007 version is released.)

With each release, the selection of courses available seems to change, and not always necessarily for the better. With the PC version of TW2004, for instance, you could play Kapalua's Plantation course, Spyglass Hills and Poppy Hills in California, the quirky Cour d'Alene course in Idaho, Sahalee in Washington, and Pinehurst #2 in North Carolina, amongst others. None of these courses appear in the 2005 version of the game (on the Mac or the PC). Instead, there are more fantasy courses and fewer real courses. So I wanted to install and use the PC's 2004 courses with the 2005 version of the game on my Mac (why fire up the PC if I don't have to?).

Caveat: You must have TW2004 actually installed on a PC somewhere, as the courses (most of them, anyway) are in compressed files on the installation CD. Alternatively, there may be some way to expand those files, but I didn't try that...

I first copied the course folders I wanted to install from the PC to the Mac, and then launched Aspyr's Course Installer utility (in the same folder as the game). Installing the library from each course file worked fine, but installing the actual course would result in an error message -- the installer reported it was unable to copy the Logo.DDS file to the destination directory. I checked permissions, and everything looked fine. After some bumbling about, I found the solution.

For any 2004 course you want to install, first move the Logo.DDS file out of the source folder. Then use the installer to install the library and the course, and the process will work fine. Then move the Logo.DDS file into the newly-created course folder. You can find your installed courses in your user's Library -> Application Support -> Tiger Woods 2005 PGA TOUR 2005 -> Downloaded Courses folder. With the Logo.DDS file in place, launch the game, and you should be able to choose and play any of the newly-instaled courses. I tested all of them, and the only one I couldn't get to launch was Princeville (I have no idea why not). Sadly, this same trick won't let you install and play the 2006 courses from the PC; they simply cause the Mac version of TW2005 to crash.

Would love to try this...only I don't want to pay for a PC version of the game just to load onto my Mac. So how do I get those files? Hmmm....?
