Not sure how many other people fly a bunch, but I have had to keep a XP machine around almost solely to check the Southwest Airlines super savings on DING!. Today, though, they have released a Mac OS X version, available on their DING! download page.

Southwest ding is nothing more than a bunch of pointers to the southwest web site. If you already have their site mapped out then this is not really needed. Otherwise it is quite handy for getting around the site no matter how cheesy the program is.

The program will send you announcements of system-wide sales before they are announced on the web. I don't like that it installs itself in your log-in items without asking. It does not follow Mac conventions such as providing a Preferences control. I also found that it crashed on quit, which isn't a big problem but leaves me with an error dialog. Would love it if it would announce sales on specific routes such as the e-mail notices I can get from Travelocity and Expedia. In short, Ding! needs work before it rings my bell.
