I couldn't get my 4G iPod to sync, because I kept getting read/write errors after a few minutes of copying files to the iPod. I was convinced my iPod's hard drive was dying. I tried both a FireWire and a USB cable to connect the iPod to my Mac, but no go.
It turns out that wasn't the case at all. My D-Link USB Bluetooth adapter was the problem. As soon as I unplugged the Bluetooth adapter, I was able to sync my iPod again.
[robg adds: I haven't heard of anything like this; I have had iPod sync issues caused by my iSight camera, but never my Bluetooth adapter...]
