Fix an iPhoto 6 (German) full-screen issue Apps
I'm using iLife 6 in German on a 12" PowerBook. In this case, I had the following problem...

When opening an image in full screen mode, the zoom slider was not visible due to the small screen and lengthy captions on the speedbuttons. Clicking on ">>" did not show any results. When the screen was like this, the zoom function could not be used.

My workaround was to shorten the labels of the other speedbuttons, so that the zoom slider would be displayed more to the left and become visible, even at 1024x768 resolution. It works like a charm.

To do so, control-click on iPhoto.app, select Show Package Contents from the pop-up menu, navigate to the Resources folder, and find the sub-folder for the language you're using (in my case, German.lproj). In this folder, make a backup copy of Localizable.strings, and edit the original file. Search for the captions of speedbuttons, and shorten the strings -- the portion on the right-hand side. For example, I reduced Rote Augen to Augen, Verbessern to Verbess., Freistellen to Freist., etc.

Save the file and restart iPhoto, and you should be able to see the speed slider.

had same problem with iLife/Tiger

Back when I got an similar small iBook and installed iLife ('05 it was at that time), I also got very frustrated about the button design used:

Why doesn't Apple design their interface so it is OK even on the smaller computers they sell?

There was always at least one button missing that could only be reached through the >> button (at least I could reach it). I just don't get it and I think they should pay more attention to this.

The same applies to Mail.app in Tiger as well - just think about how much space the reply etc. buttons use on a small screen!

iPhoto 6.01 fixes the problem

I just updated to iPhoto 6.01 and was prepared to repeat the procedure. This was not necessary, though. I can't quite make out what they did, perhaps the space between symbols has been reduced or the font size of the captions. Whatever Apple did, in this new version all speed buttons and the zoom slider are now visible even on 1024x768 resolution.
