Since Microsoft is no longer supporting Windows Media Player for Mac, they recommend installing the (free) Flip4Mac WMV QuickTime Components to allow QuickTime to play WMV files and embedded movies.

One side effect of installing the Flip4Mac components is that streaming of Sirius Satellite Radio no longer works. Until it's fixed, you can use VLC to do it.

Here is what I did:

  1. Go to Sirius and click on the "listen" link at the top of the page.
  2. Log in, then navigate to the station to which you want to listen.
  3. When the QuickTime controller comes up, click on the downward triangle at the right side and select 'Save as source...'.
  4. Now launch VLC and open the file you saved from the previous step; it seems you must do this via the File: Open menu item, and not via drag and drop.
That's it -- VLC should now start playing the stream.
