If you don't like the slideshow offered by iWeb (part of iLife '06) when you don't publish to .Mac, there is a way to replace it.
When exported to a folder, iWeb dumps a folder called "SlideShow_assets" into your published folder. You can replace that with whatever favorite JavaScript or Flash slideshow package you want; it just needs to get the image URLs info and current slide index from the opening photo page.
As discussed in this blog post, there's a pointer to a great thread on this topic over on Apple's discussion site. In the first post there, there's a link to an HTML, CSS, and JavaScript-based slideshow packge.
