Install certain parts of iLife '06 on another volume Apps
I received iLife '06 today from the Apple store (only three days after I placed my web order). My previous GarageBand was installed onto a drive other than my startup volume using a hack -- Such as GarageBand Anywhere. This was necessary to save space on my startup volume.

However, with iLife '06, this is no longer necessary. You can now custom install iDVD, iMovie, and GarageBand support files (such as all the Apple loops, etc.) to wherever you'd like. This saves up to 6GB of space on your startup drive. Just remember to choose a Custom install during the installation process.

I saw this and thought it was real winner. Turns out companies do occasionally listen to the users! Finally I can install the Garageband loops on my external disk for the rare occasions that I actually need them...

Failed for Me

I tried this a couple days ago and the installer crashed whenever attempting to write to the other volumes. I attempted to put all of my Garageband data files on another drive.

I finally just installed onto my boot volume and then copied Garageband's data files to a second drive and sym linked to it.

But not on network volumes

I was thrilled to see that option as well. Unfortunately it refused to install on any network volumes. My plan was to install all the loops and their like on my main server, and then have everyone else link to them. Unfortunately it looks like I'll have to do it by hand.

I just wish that iWork 06 would support this too.
