Some tips for iPhoto photocasting to Windows users Apps
Well I have wholeheartedly adopted the new iPhoto, eagerly ripped the packet open, and boasted of its new Photocasting feature to the Windows users around me. "Let me show you," I said, proudly publishing my first album and anouncing it, then getting remarks back -- "Ugh, we can't see it; Firefox won't show it" and "Thought you said it was good."

So I went digging, and it seems that there are not many Windows-based RSS readers that can handle the image part. So if you are announcing your photocasts to the world, you may want to let them know they need a compatable RSS reader. One I found which is free is Blog Navigator. If anyone finds a Windows RSS reader that will display the images inline, too, that would be great.

Before you publish, make sure you have sensible descriptions or file names for the images -- or else all the viwer sees is the image file name. I have to go through all 196 images in my photocast now to correct the names.

I wonder if anyone has tried running their photocast feeds through feedburner to see if it will clean it up. You let your windows subscribers get the feedburner feed (mac users you have no problem). Plus, you get your stats on your feed. Someone should try it. I may, but don't have time right now.

Tell the Firefox users to use Sage. That's the one and only RSS-reader I use on PC at work, and it works great for me.

I use bloglines for my RSS "feeds," and it displays images if you want it to.

Bloglines can't handle un/pw protected feeds. Most of us will want to pw protect our kid's pics.

Great service though!

The problem here lies more with Apple, I'm afraid, than with any RSS reader: Apple has cooked up their own completely non-standard flavor of RSS. If anything, it's a wonder that any non-Apple product works with it at all.
