10.4: Use Orange Micro SCSI adapters with 10.4.4 System 10.4
Tiger only hintIf you have an Orange Micro Grappler SCSI adapter that went dead when you upgraded to Tiger, and you can't find a firmware update anywhere, you can download and install one of the Advantsys drivers (1.2MB download). Find the drivers in the 'Mac OS X Drivers' folder after the archive expands.

I used the Asc3050 driver, and it worked fine with my Orange Micro 906F; your mileage will certainly vary. Hooray, my scanner works again!

I was really excited to see the title of this post. Finally, I thought, someone has addressed this fairly serious problem that was introduced with 10.4.2 where several of the most popular SCSI drivers (Adaptec, Advansys etc...) were broken and there was a deafening silence from Apple regarding the issue at all. See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=141723.

Unfortunatley, the solution proposed in the parent post was simply to re-install the original driver, which for many survived intact and even worked. It's just that the drivers cause serious, catastrophic, system crashes. For me, the driver would cause a severe system crash whenever the system went to sleep. My scanner worked just fine and continues to work fine. In fact, deleting the driver was a major problem (see link above).

I will still download and try out the suggested driver on the hope that it will over-write the bad one that I have and perhaps not have the same problem.

Thanks for posting the link to the official driver.

My Grapper still works fine. Most likely because I used the flash ROM update instead of using the driver.

Unfortunately, the only thing on the SCSI chain, an Iomega Zip 100, now has the click of death!

10.4: Use Orange Micro SCSI adapters with 10.4.4
Authored by: digidigger on Jan 27, '07 01:08:18PM

Sorry, I'm so late. Only last week I had to upgrade to OS X 10.4 because I upgraded to SketchUpPro 6. Now I cannot use my SCSI-scanner any longer which is hooked on Orange Micro GrapplerCard 906F.

As proposed by Warren Oates I downloaded AdvanSys_Drivers but found no file "Asc3050". There is a file "3550_X_boot.bin"; is it correct ?

And, PLEASE, where is this file to be installed ?

THANKS for any hint & help !
