Change volume in media apps via horizontal scrolling Apps
I just bought the Mighty Mouse, and discovered that scrolling horizontally while having your mouse hovered on the iTunes sound scroll bar increases and decreases the volume. It works with QuickTime Player, too, although you have to invert the way you scroll -- scrolling to the right decreases the sound; to the left increases it.

It doesn't work while hovering on the Volume menulet though, which is a pity.

[robg adds: This should work with any mouse that supports horizontal scrolling -- I tested it with my Microsoft wireless, and it worked fine. This trick is more useful in QuickTime Player, where a vertical scroll steps through the movie one frame at a time. In iTunes, vertical scrolling also changes the volume, which I find to be a much easier motion.]

This works on a PowerBook with scrolling trackpad, too. Nice tip, though I don't think I'll be using it.

I love that feature. On my Mac Mini with regular USB mouse it works even for the menulet!

I've got an Intellimouse with my iBook, the horizontal scrolling on the trackpad works, and so does shift + scroll with the mouse wheel (which physically scrolls vertically). Great hint!

Anyone know how to change Quicktime to reverse the way you scroll i.e. scrolling to the LEFT decreases the sound; to the RIGHT increases it. ?
