Stream pictures and music to an Xbox 360 Apps
Those of you who have (or will be getting) an Xbox 360 may be interested to know that there is a pretty cool and inexpensive utility out there that will enable your Mac (10.3 or higher) to stream both pictures and music to your Xbox 360. I was frustrated that I was unable to do this, so after some searching, I found this product: TwonkyMedia.

The demo version seems to work fine, however it only lasts for 30 minutes. After installing and restarting, it sets up a server running on port 9000 which allows you to configure it via a web browser by pointing it to http://youripaddress:9000. Best of all, while not free, it's only $20.

[robg adds: I've actually received a similar question via email on a couple of occasions now, so I felt this was worth posting. I haven't tested the app (no Xbox), and there may be other free or inexpensive solutions to do this -- if you know of such, please post them in the comments!]

I don't know much about the xBox, but is there any reason VLC wouldn't cut it? It's made for streaming after all!

I'd love to see a way to stream Sony's "Location free TV" to view with my PSP, rather than having to buy Sony's expensive Location Free base station.

i loaded twonky - the demo seems to not let you edit the config files - or install one (like i can even figure out how to) and it doesn't support the 10k AAC files i have... slim server does support aac, but i can't figure out how to get the xbox360 to recognize the slimserver as it did with twonky. any ideas...

For some reason, the MediaServerX app isn't installing :P Any ideas? I run the package, it installs the /startup mediaserver folder with the mediaserver thingy and a resources folder, but no application. Any suggestions?

what did you have to do, as i noticed that the demo only installs the startup item, and no config or application file...

there is a useful FAQ written by a mac/xbox 360 user in the twonky forum.

http://www.twonkyvision.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=726

that said, i cannot get the demo to work, but have read that this is not uncommon and that the full version seems to work much better. havent decided if i wish to part with the money yet though...

Haven't seen it mentioned yet and nothing appeared in a brief search, but a new application for OS X is looking to be top-dog in this category: Connect360 found over at www.nullriver.com
