Anyway, there is a version 7.22 there that works with Panther, whoo hooo! You have to first manually uninstall all the other Microtek drivers, though. There is a further driver update there for the X12 USL ScanMaker as well.
It works. That's all I can say. Thought I'd share the info, as the Microtek scanner saga with OS X is not so nice, and will any Mac owners ever buy a new Microtek scanner? I don't think so...

Update: An anonymous tipster wrote in saying "Microtek has an open ftp (ftp://ftp.microtek.com) site that has newer versions (beta) than they post on their site. I have used these over the years to keep my 5700 running. Use at your own risk."
