Remember playback position of items in iTunes Apps
A feature of audio books from Apple (and Audible) is that iTunes will remember where you are in the song/book/etc. Now Apple has added this ability to any song, music, or file of any type in iTunes.

Pick a song, or movie you want to have iTunes remember the position of, and press Command-I (Get Info). In the Options tab, enable 'Remember Playback Position,' and you are done. If you listen to the track, stop and come back to it later, it will continue where you left off. This property is also synchronized with your iPod! Finally, my non-Audible audio books can be used properly, and this even works with videos!

[robg adds: This is well-documented in the iTunes release notes, but given that it's now been submitted quite a few times, I thought I'd go ahead an publish it, in case some of you may have missed it.]

To check this setting on a selection of tracks, use the AppleScript Selected Tracks Bookmarkable.

Does this setting transfer over to the iPod as well?

It only transfers if you are using a 4th Generation or later iPod.

IIRC, it works on 3G iPods too, but only on AAC files, not MP3. That's my experience.

I have been a long-time lurker on this forum and I just had an issue where I was driving in my car and every song I skipped through would start playing from where I left off instead of the beginning. It took me some time to figure out what had happened and I did a little write up on how to fix it if you come across this and do not know what to do.

Have a look if you want to enable / disable this feature because it is a little hard to find.

Hope people find this helpful and have a great day!
