If you're a Quicksilver user, doing a simple macosxhints.com search with it is exceptionally easy. On their site is a page which lists many web searches that can be done "out of the box." I added one into Firefox from the site:

qss-http://www.macosxhints.com/search.php?query=***&type=stories&mode=search&keyType=all
This drives a simple search of the Mac OS X Hints site. Also on the Quicksilver page mentioned above are qss-http URL protocol template links for tons of sites, including macosxhints.com. They can be put into a bookmark, or stored on the file system and still get picked up by Quicksilver.

Be sure to do a Command-R when Quicksilver is active so that it rescans its catalog. Finally, you may need to acquire and/or activate the Firefox plug-in for Quicksilver, depending on what version you have installed.

[robg adds: I believe such a feature is also standard in Butler and LaunchBar--in Butler, I have hotkeys assigned to a few common searches, including macosxhints...]
