Set movies as music videos in iTunes6 Apps
I've got a collection of music videos that I've culled together on my computer, but when I added them to iTunes, they showed up in the general "Movies" tab of the video section, rather than under "Music Video" tab. This wouldn't matter much to me, except for the fact that problem persisted in Front Row as well (since it's just pulling the information from iTunes).

I tried various things before finding this article on the Apple support site that explained how to change a tag a music video appropriately (see the bottom of the page). Basically, it's a setting in the Info -> Options pane, thus it's not really hidden, but I had trouble finding it. I had troubles because it's not an option that you can set for multiple files at once (which I was trying to do). So I thought it was worth sharing.

Another inexplicable limitation is that you can't designate videos as TV Shows. I'm really hoping Apple improves the behavior and options for sorting video content in iTunes 6.1 (or 7, with the way that they seem to be numbering them now).

Set movies as music videos in iTunes6

I believe iTunes currently stores these values this way:

Music Video

That didn't display correctly after I submitted it (it looked correct while previewing).

Basically, there is a "Music Video" value that is set to true or false.

This is good to know. Now, does anyone know how to set the property of an mp3 to 'Audiobook' so that it shows when 'Audiobook' is chosen in the Search bar?

I believe audiobooks are defined by the file extension .m4b
You can change any m4a to an m4b but it would have to be an AAC file in the first place not an MP3, although having said that I know mp3 podcasts behave similarly. I think there is a podcast keyword you can use to define an MP3 as such but I haven't investigated.

Setting audiobooks and TV Shows

The previous comment is correct regarding audiobooks and i've converted many this way with success. As far as making the type 'TV Shows' someone has been working on a way and has had some success. He's even created a little app to do the work for you:

Setting audiobooks and TV Shows

I tried converting the mp3 to AAC, then changing the extension to .m4b, but the file still doesn't show up as an Audiobook when I select 'Audiobooks' in the Search Bar. I even tried deleting it from the Library and re-adding it. Am I missing something?

Set movies as music videos in iTunes6

I too have many TV series that are not correctly catalogued in iTunes.
I love iTunes and iPhoto and use them every day. But struggle to understand why they have not provided a library catalogue system for movies and quicktime. Further more the fact that Front row can play full screen where simple use of Quicktime in full screen requires you to open your wallet. The closest I have come to love of a Video storage application is iVideo but with no recent updates and not doing Applescript I'm fence sitting for now. Before I spend hours changing my videos to find I have to change them again.

p.s. Did download "iSquint" this week to test this iPod video converter is excellent

TV Shows

I should add (now years later) that Apple fixed the TV Show tag issue (allowing you to set your own TV-show tags). I can't remember exactly which version gained this feature though (it was somewhere in the 6's).
