Not sure if this is old news or not, but choose File: Get Info (or Command-I) on an application will now also tell you the architecture that app was compiled for:

I had never noticed this before, and I'm not sure what build it appeared in.

10.4.3.

I immediately noticed it since I usually browse Finder in column mode which shows the items' "Get Info" in the farthest right column.

This appeared in the early Intel builds (10.4.1) and appeared for 'normal', PowerPC Macs in 10.4.3, which was just released a few weeks ago. You could probably get it to appear before then with a hidden setting with the defaults tool.

Too bad it doesn't work for frameworks and 'nix-style libraries (.dylibs) and executables. I've just started converting a bunch of my 'nix builds to universal and this would be a nice easy way to verify the universal build (instead of icky commandline stuff).
