Prior to Tiger's release, I submitted numerous requests to Apple asking for a feature that would allow the dragging and dropping of vCards within iCal, thereby eliminating typing of your contact's info.
After upgrading to Tiger and testing out iCal's new features, I was happy to find very good support for dragging and dropping vCards. In particular, these two are great timesavers:
- To very quickly create an appointment (new event) with a client (or any contact that you have entered in Address Book for that matter), simply drag the contact's vCard and drop it on to your open daily, weekly, or monthly view within iCal. Drop it on the day and time where you want the appointment (ie; Monday 9:00 am), and you will have instantly created a new event with the following text: 'Meeting with (contact's name).'
- To create a To Do item regarding this contact, first drag and drop the vCard to your calendar (as explained above), then drag the newly created event from the calendar into your To Do list. Presto, you will instantly create a To Do, which can be edited if necessary. For some reason, you cannot drag the vCard to the To Dos list directly; it has to be an event first.
Apple, thanks for listening!
