Use an alternative to the EyeHome software Apps
Since I updated to 10.4.3, the EyeHome software (v1.6) crashes all the time. Until an update is released, you can either downgrade to v1.5.2 (13.1MB download), or to use third-party program called Virtuoso MC-500 Media Center. With this program, I'm now able to use my EyeHome box to watch movies, listen to music, and even surf the web directly from my TV.

[robg adds: I can't verify either the crashes with EyeHome nor the functionality of the MC-500 replacement...]

Use an alternative to the EyeHome software

Even if the original software is working fine you should still consider this as it has several improvements interface-wise. Select the interface named 'blue' and you'll see what i mean, its a lot clearer to read and uncluttered when compared to the original.

Use an alternative to the EyeHome software

Dear fellow, can somebody give more information about this product, or at least the software. This product seems to be the missing link in the mac world, eyehome being the only one in this field so far. But nobody ever mentioned this hardware in mac news...
As far as I can undestand the software you talk about is installed on the Mac and takes the media server role, but does this change the gui on eyehome? And how does this software integrate in OSX, can it play DVD insterted in the DVD player as frot row can? Can you post some GUI screenshots? And appologies to post these questions here as it is not really related to the hint but to the product, thanks Zsolt

Use an alternative to the EyeHome software

I have tested and sold quite a few of these units and my customers have been very happy with it. It has much better codec support than the Eyehome and they both seem to use the same Tomcat based server software. The MC-500's interface is much easier (IMHO) on the eyes and its HD output looks stunning through a projector. The Eyehome can't even playback HD recording from its own family of digital TV recorders.

Use an alternative to the EyeHome software

If (as this article suggests) you can use the Elgato EyeHome hardware with the Neuston Virtuoso software then is the reverse also possible? That is to use the Elgato EyeHome software with the Neuston Virtuoso hardware?

Elgato are falling way behind on the hardware front. Their EyeHome does not support HD (it only has analog outputs) and they have not indicated they will be developing MPEG4 and DVB-S2 products.

My experiences with eyeHome and Neuston
Authored by: macslut on Nov 14, '05 09:19:38AM

I tried this out over the weekend. The Neuston software kinda works with the eyeHome and 10.4.3, but there was some definite bugginess. On the other hand, eyeHome definitely always had some rough edges in terms of reliability and doesn't work at all with 10.4.3.

The question I have for someone with both the Neuston software and hardware is...does the Neuston hardware perform reliably well with its own software?

If so, I'm thinking about buying a unit.

The Neuston product seems to offer a *lot* of advantages to the eyeHome to make it worth the extra $$$. Unfortunately, their site doesn't give a whole bunch of information, such as...how does the USB port work with a hard drive? Can you use the Neuston with just a USB hard drive filled with media content (and no network or computer)?

My experiences with eyeHome and Neuston

I sent them a mail with some questions two days ago, but so far no reply. It is rather strange that they dont trumpet their product on mac sites as it is filling a gap in mac product line.
