10.4: Fix a StuffIt v10 crashing glitch Apps
Tiger only hintIf you find StuffIt v10 is crashing when launched under Tiger, try this.

Open the Network panel in System Preferences, and set IPv6 to Automatic on your active network interface (via the Configure IPv6 pop-up). You can then disable "Allow Version Checking" in StuffIt, and disable IPv6 again. A future update to StuffIt should fix this problem...

I can also confirm. I had been using Stuffit 9 ever since an OS reinstall about two months ago. Thanks for the tip.

Stuffit it still very popular in the publishing business. Old habits die hard apparently. I agree that's it totally unecessary now unless you have a storage problem and need to use sitx, or you like to use Archive Via Rename, which is surprisingly useful.

Because it's so popular, most printers and prepress shops need to keep up to date with Stuffit just to be able to work with large numbers of stuffit files still showing up in emails and on ftp servers.

This hint sounds like it might be related to this advisory on the StuffIt web site for 10.3 and 10.4: http://support.allume.com/techsupport/qanda.php?id=646&sessionid=350616

I can definitely confirm the glitch and verify that disabling the Auto Update feature after disabling IPv6 does resolve the issue. However, would anyone be able to post the link to the update for those of us who despise surfing the Stuffit website?

Use http://www.stuffit.com/mac/deluxe/updates.html as it asks a serial number there.

Directly downloading file maybe a problem, who knows?
