If you find it tiring to eject the camera's disk icon after importing images into iPhoto, here's one way that you may be able to avoid doing that. Many cameras today have a PictBridge or PTP option. This option is usually found in the setup menu of the camera. Enabling this option prevents the camera's memory card from showing up on the desktop. iPhoto will still see the camera and import photos from it as usual.

Make some USB cameras easier to use in iPhoto
Is there any way to do this with media card readers? When using my camera everything works as described but the only problem is its a USB connection so it can be excrutiating when theres alot of photos on my card. Ive got a firewire media reader that works great except that it requires me to eject the card etc... everytime I remove it. Any workaround for this? Can this be altered?. Or does anyone have any recomendations for a differant media reader. Whats the best card reader out there?

I just use Image Capture to import my images - you can select the ones you want, pre-rotate them, add colorsync profile, etc, then once they're on my hd, I drop the folder in to iPhoto.

I have found that iPhoto will respect my color profile choice. When I set the profile in the devices tab in ColorSync Utility, iPhoto puts the appropriate profile on my photos. However when I changed my camera from USB to PictBridge mode this no longer worked! Colorsync Utility does not seem to treat PTP - PictBridge devices the same way as it treats standard USB devices. So now I've stopped using my own hint so I can get the color profiles I want on the images.

One way of reducing the number of steps you have to do can be achieved in OS 10.4 - set up an Automator action to take the selected images, import them into iPhoto and then delete the originals. Although I haven't done this from a camera, I do have this action set up so that I can bulk handle images I download from the internet (primarily istockphoto.com). My guess is that the same principle applies. And you could add a question so you can decide on a case-by-case basis whether to delete the originals. Just a thought... Graeme

use image capture, to dump in a folder then set automatic task to iPhoto, you can select what you want to upload, but you have to periodically delete files, but the plus is if you archive things alot it makes it waaaay easier

You can more or less easily choose which pictures you want to import. |
