Problem: I bought a new iPod, and wanted to quickly migrate everything from my old iPod to the new one.
Solution: Plug both iPods into a Mac. In the Terminal, copy the following files from the old iPod to the new iPod:
- iPod_Control/Artwork -- copy the entire directory
- iPod_Control/Music -- copy the entire directory
- iPod_Control/iTunes/iTunesDB
Remember, you'll find the iPod_Control directory in the /Volumes/name_of_iPod directory on each iPod.
[robg adds: I actually did this same thing when I upgraded my older iPod a while ago, and it worked great. I found it much simpler than using iTunes, given that I manually manage the iPods and it would have taken a while to figure out exactly what to copy across...]
