Subscribe to del.icio.us video via iTunes Apps
A friend pointed me to this writeup on lifehacker.com, which describes how to use iTunes to subscribe to a feed of any sort of del.icio.us video that you'd like to see. For instance, to subscribe to a feed showing all "Funny" tagged video clips, use iTunes' Advanced: Subscribe to Podcast menu item and point it to this URL:

http://del.icio.us/rss/tag/system:filetype:mov+funny

The writeup explains how to modify and find the feed URL for any tag type.

As some of you may know, I've struggled to understand the podcasting phenomenon. But now that I can subscribe to a series of short, free, and (hopefully) funny video clips, I think I might actually have to re-enable the Podcast section in iTunes...

There aren't many videos posted yet, but the devolution Guinness Commercial has to be one of the funniest (IMHO).

Understanding podcasts

If you want to "understand" audio podcasts, subscribe to Cinecast. What a fantastic movie review/discussion show, and independent. However, on iTunes there are two listings for Cinecast. Curiously enough, the one with the broken image (as of yesterday) is the one you want - the other one is behind. You can also tell which one to get by looking at the list of available shows. The one that's got the current episode is the one you want. I'd love to see Cinecast as a video podcast. I've emailed them and suggested it....

Systm and ScreencastsOnline (Desktop version | iPod version) are pretty good video podcasts. I'm not sure if they'll be continuing Systm or not; I'm not saying they won't though.

I've been using these widgets for a little while now, and love the variety of video and audio that comes down the pipeline! There's lots of garbage, but there are some true gems in there. I truly believe that in 10 years, this is the way we'll get all of our video content, just by subscribing to a feeds that match a specific interest.

One thing that should be mentioned somewhere is that this podcast is not at all safe for houses with children. It seems that about once a week I will find a few pretty nasty suprises, if you've been subscribed for a while, you probably already know what I mean.

The other (and much larger) annoyance is that these podcasts constantly break for me. They will just stop downloading new video, and when I click the exclaimation point on the left, it says "del.icio.us/tag/system:media:video does not seem to be a valid Podcast URL." If I then resubscribe to it again, I get a second identical entry, unless I delete the old entry out first. This has seemed to get progressively worse lately. I don't seem to have the same problems with any other podcasts, just with the del.icio.us audio and video feeds.

this hint has stopped working for me... I've tried deleting it and then re-adding and itunes insists that its not a valid podcast feed....

odd.
